The second level walls are then constructed using the same pillar and wall construction method. Once the second level
walls are finished the highest ridgebeam will be constructed using a lamination of several 2X6’s. This laminated beam will be supported by the soil cement endwalls, the entrance walls and
strategically placed pipe pillars in spans in the master suite and library areas. Then the south wall of the library and master suite areas will be consrtucted. Next will be the rafter system.
The rafter system is also a unique design. Each rafter will be in five sections. Two for the south facing roof from the short wall to the south wall of the master suite and
library then up to the laminated beam. The north facing roof will consist of three sections. The south most will be over the library, the center over the bedrooms, and the north over the
cellars (Note: Link to bottom of Design to see the roof system, then use back to return to this page). The reason for these five section rafters it to allow the owner builder to set rafters without the use of a crane. They will be able to be set with minimum labor
Once the rafter are all set in place then the 2X4’s can be placed polebarn style. The exterior will be galvinized steel. The underside of the galvinized steel will be sprayed
with foam inslulation to accomplish a couple things. First it will quiet the sound of rainfall, sleet or hail. Second it will be the first insulated bearer agains the hot summer sun and cold
winter winds. The area with in the roof will become dead air space and the ceilings of the second floor will be insulated with at least a foot of cellulose insulation.
