Why Does He Do What He Does?

I would guess that a lot of you may wonder why I’m doing what I do at my expense and for a not for profit nature.  I look at it as more of a hobby than anything else.  Those Sicangu Lakota Artisans that I can help through the virtual trading post will reward me at their discretion, not based on any fee or percentage of their profits.
My capital outlay to get this project started comes to about $1,400.00 for my new Gateway Celeron 400 MHz computer with a 10 gigabyte hard drive and a 40x CD-ROMand HP DeskJet printer.  My old 1992 Model Gateway 486-DX4 8MB RAM that sizzled along at the amazing 33 MHz with a whopping 210 MB hard drive complmented with a screaming 1X CD-ROM external drive (with the Epson Action Laser printer for around $3,200.00) finally gave up the ghost, kicked the bucket, or journeyed to that virtual happy hunting grounds.  I had it on the net for a little while but it was a real snail.  Knowing it could not handle this project I decided to buy a new one.
So far about $500.00 for software and a about $300.00 for a domain and dedicated telephone line.   Monthly expenses will run about $100.00 per month for the telephone and internet access.  It would be difficult to put a value on my time since it is more of a hobby.  In summary, a total capital outlay of $2,200.00 and approximately $1,200.00 a year.
Its a lot cheaper than going out drinking twice a month, smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, or a lot of other hobbies or vices one can get trapped by.
If you like what I’m trying to accomplish for myself and my friends feel free to tell your friends to drop by this site.

Professionally Speaking

Currently, I’m employeed by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Office Of Water Resources.  Water Resources is the home of most of the tribe’s environmental programs, Safety of Dams, Little White River Watershed Management Study, and the Sicangu Mni Wiconi Project/Rosebud Sioux Rural Water System.  My current capacity is assistant director for Water Resouces.  I also serve as assistant director of the Safety of Dams Program.  For the rural water I serve as construction coordination.  From this position I have the luxury of not being stuck  at one task for the project.  I’m able to attend coordination meeting with the other sponsors in the project.
