During this same period several other major dumps were in operation here on the Rosebud. The Rosebud Boarding School,
which has been in operation since the late 1800’s, had a dump. They were located on the north side of Antelope Lake. The Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Indian Health Service have been in
Rosebud for over 120 years. They had a dump in a draw west of the present hospital. These are only a few of the examples of historic dumps on the Rosebud. Any further descriptions of dumps
would bore the readers but it must be understood that they are many old major dumps out there! About the same time period of private entrepreneurship began the Rosebud Sioux Tribe got
into the garbage landfill business. Subsequently the BIA, IHS, and the City of Mission, along with federal an municipal dollars, phased out of the business. Every since that time the
trash problems on the Rosebud Reservation have become a tribal or community problem.
